Congresbury Residents Action Group(CRAG) along with members of other North Somerset resident groups, has accused an influential district council committee of dereliction of duty.
Delegates to the North Somerset Village Alliance (NSVA) meeting at Churchill, expressed amazement that members of the Strategic Planning & Economic Development & Scrutiny Panel (SPED) did not appear to know what they were doing.
The criticism follows a recent meeting of SPED at which members did not seem to realise that their function was to hold the Council Executive to account. Chair of CRAG Mary Short said: “We have looked at the Council’s Constitution and that is precisely their job. The clue is in the committee’s title – scrutiny – I don’t know what else they think is their reason for existence if not to scrutinise the Executive.” Click here to read full report from John Mills.
