Four bowlers from Congresbury Bowling Club head to the England finals at Leamington Spa next month after winning the Somerset area final of the national mixed fours competition.

The team, Ann King, Clive Shipway and Kate and Brian Herbison reached the national finals after a nailbiting win against a team from Weston-super-Mare when they squandered an eight-shot lead and only clinched victory in the dying moments of the match.

Congresbury has also had notable success in the national Tony Allcock Trophy (otherwise known as the Over 60s National Mixed Two Rink Competition). Congresbury won the Somerset Area Final and now face St Austell of Cornwall for place in the National Finals at Leamington. The two Congresbury rinks are (left to right) Ann King, Brian Herbison, Dawn Harrison, Steve Eastment, Kate Herbsion, Reg Birmingham and Jenny and Dave Byett.
