Some gardeners may have gone to the Congresbury Horticultural Society’s November talk totally disinterested in Bonsai, but many changed their minds after a fascinating talk by John Trott, Gold winner at Chelsea.
He assured them that a bonsai plant may be created from any tree or shrub, and is not a horticultural item, but an artistic one.
The method is to continually prune the plant, shaping it into the design you want, and the easiest one to start as a beginner is a cotoneaster.Bonsai prefer to be kept outdoors, because that is the nature of the tree or shrub, but may be brought indoors for a short period.
There may be a lot more entries in the bonsai class in local flower shows in future.
