Congresbury Residents Action Group (CRAG) has learned that a number of significant changes to Wrington Lane proposed by land agents Gladman are to be rejected by North Somerset Council’s highways department.
This should mean that the firm faces the problems arising from its original traffic scheme – including the disputed ownership of land where it wanted to place a new footway.
Said CRAG chair Mary Short: “Highways reasons for rejecting the plan, mirrors most of the objections made by CRAG and local residents.”
NSC’s highways and transport team turned down the proposals for the following reasons:
- Removal of the footway originally proposed outside plots 19 to 27
- Reduction of the width of access from Kent Road from 5.5m to 4.26m contrary to the Council’s design guide.
- The carriageway has been reduced to 3m through the priority one-way sections. The council states ‘widths between 2.75 m and 3.25 m should be avoided in most cases, since they could result in drivers trying to squeeze past cyclists’
- Narrowing of the footway between numbers 15 and 19 to 1.2m.
- Emergency services have expressed concern about Wrington Lane and would be looking for a widening of the narrow section to the east of Wrington Lane rather than significantly reducing the lane further to the west.
