Your views wanted on Churchill Sports Centre

As many of you may know our nearest sports centre at Churchill Academy has closed and is not set to reopen. A group called Mendip Villages Fitness has been formed to try to look at options for the Centre and is in discussions with North Somerset council to try to find a way forward.
As part of our plans for opening a revitalised and much-needed sports facility on the site, we are sending out a survey to gauge opinions on the closure and asking local communities what they would like to see provided if and when the sports centre reopens.

Walking Tennis

Walking tennis is taking off all over the Bristol area (where it was founded) – and it’s about to hit Congresbury and North Somerset this spring!

This new format of the game is great as a ‘medium-level exercise’ for those not able to due sport due to injury or age for both non-tennis players and ex-tennis players alike. It is also great for beginners who can develop their tennis stroke and confidence before moving to the running form of the game.

Walking Tennis is played with lower compression (orange spot) balls, you have the option of a second bounce (which has to land in court too), and you cannot run. It can be played as singles or doubles, although we’ve seen it played nicely with 3 at each end too!

The social element is important too with coffee after; at some clubs the players rotate bringing a cake to have with the coffee – we hope that will happen here too!

If you might be interested in joining the course in April 2020 please email WalkingTennis@congresburyltc.net to be added to the mailing list to receive more details nearer the time. You can also check out the rules of Walking Tennis at https://www.walkingtennis.org/rules.html
